Coming in 2025
Databases are ubiquitous today with people coming in contact with hundreds of databases each day through social media, eCommerce and other businesses. Most of those databases are relational databases. We create and interact with relational databases through a language called Structured Query Language, SQL. Sometimes it is pronounced as "Sequel" or called "S Q L". This course covers how to design, create and test a database. It also includes how to retrieve, insert, update and delete data from a database. The final topic is how to embed SQL into applications.
Format:
Self-paced and on-demand.
Learning Outcomes or Competencies:
Students will have the following learning outcomes.
- Create relational databases using Data Definition Language, DDL, commands.
- Retrieve, insert, update and delete data in a relational database using Data Modification Language, DML, commands.
- Create and test stored procedures, functions and triggers.
- Embedded DML commands into applications to make applications data-aware.
Background Knowledge Required:
The DDL and DML parts of the course require no prior knowledge. Stored procedures, functions, triggers and embedded SQL require some basic programming skills.
Number of Learning Modules/Sections:
